Aboul-Hole was made with minimal resources and maximum conviction, conceived as a compact, self-contained project. Rather than a product of crisis, it was a creative choice to embrace simplicity—both financially and logistically. A close-knit group of collaborators offered their time and energy freely, with some growing their beards months in advance to fit the roles. Inspired by mythology, prophecy, and the absurdity of belief in modern times, the film resists easy interpretation, guided more by instinct than convention. Though it never screened publicly, it remains one of the most personal and unconventional works produced by Mex Films.
