Mex Films is an independent film production company based in Shiraz, Iran, founded in 2016 with a singular mission: empowering filmmakers with full artistic freedom. We produce bold, personal films that challenge form and genre — cinema built on liberated imagination and personal vision, not simply driven by messages.
The company was initiated by producer Ali Mansouri and grew from a small founding team into a creative hub welcoming new voices and collaborators. In the face of artistic and social constraints in today’s Iran, we see this approach — rooted in freedom and collaboration — as the only way to truly create cinema that matters.
Over the years, Mex Films has created eight short films and is now in pre-production for its first feature, Lamentable Matters, directed by Hamed Najabat, alongside several upcoming shorts. As we gain momentum, we’re turning toward wider audiences and a global festival presence — committed to crafting risk-taking, director-driven films with international reach.
Mex Films is a space where collaboration is fundamental — and where the very process of filmmaking becomes a form of resistance: a way of reimagining and making sense of the conditions we live in.
