His work often explores genre and fantasy, blending imaginative worlds with psychological and philosophical undertones. Beyond directing, he has also worked as a still photographer on several Mex Films productions. On the company’s debut feature, Lamentable Matters, he served as line producer and photographer.​

Danial Afshar (b. 1993, Iran) is a filmmaker and co-founder of Mex Films, based in Shiraz. His work explores mood, subtle emotion, and psychological themes. At Mex Films, he serves as Executive Director, overseeing creative direction and distribution. He has directed three short films and recently worked as first assistant director and scheduler on the company’s debut feature, Lamentable Matters. He is currently developing his fourth short film.

Pooyan Ranjbar (b. 1990, Iran) is a filmmaker and cinematographer based in Shiraz. He began his artistic journey with analog photography before transitioning into filmmaking, developing a strong visual language that blends image and sound. At Mex Films, Ranjbar works as a cinematographer and director. He most recently shot the company’s debut feature, Lamentable Matters, currently in post-production, and directed the short film Shelter (2025).
